A connection is a registered server: a host, an optional port, an optional default database, an authentication method, and TLS settings. It carries two flags that matter:

The Connections editor: a registered server with its host, authentication method and the production setting.
The Connections editor: a registered server with its host, authentication method and the production setting.
  • Production. A run that touches a connection marked production stops and makes you type a word to confirm before anything executes. This is the guardrail the tool exists for; set it honestly.
  • Save password. Passwords are stored in the Windows credential store and referenced by name. The connection file holds the reference, never the secret — which is what makes it safe to commit.

A connection can be overridden per machine. connections.local.json beside the shared connections.json lets one developer point a shared connection at their own host without editing the file everyone else uses.
