sqlmc list coverage: Reading the report

Every count is rendered against the number of databases actually read.

Last updated 2026-10-21

$ sqlmc list coverage --list "All Prod" --yes
All Prod: read 12 of 12 database(s).

dbo.CustomerNote missing from 9 of 12
dbo.Customer.LoyaltyTier missing from 6 of 12
sales.OrderHeader.Total typed 2 ways across 12: decimal(18,2), money

3 finding(s) across the 12 database(s) read. Nothing is claimed about any database that was not read.

Every count is rendered against the number of databases actually read. "Missing from 3" is not something anyone can act on — three of five is a mistake, three of forty is a rollout half done — and a reader who had to go and find the denominator would sometimes not bother.

A coverage report: every count is stated against the 12 databases actually read, naming the six that lack the column.
A coverage report: every count is stated against the 12 databases actually read, naming the six that lack the column.

A scan that observed nothing says exactly that:

All Prod: read 12 of 12 database(s).

Observed nothing differing across the 12 database(s) read. That is not a claim that the rest agree.

Never "consistent". No scan can establish anything about a database it did not reach, and no line of this output is allowed to imply it did.
