A workspace is the top-level container and the unit you share. It is a .smcworkspace file plus three JSON side files in the same folder, designed to be committed to git.

A workspace owns four things, and every project inside it shares them:

  • Connections — the servers you have registered.
  • Target groups — the named sets of databases a run can go to.
  • Environments — named columns of variable values.
  • Variable declarations — which {{tokens}} exist, and how each one renders.

It also tracks which projects belong to it, by relative path.

Registering a server once and reaching it from every project is the point. You can have several workspaces — one per customer, one per estate — and switch between them from the title bar. The app remembers every workspace you have opened in a named index, not a recent-files list that things fall off the end of.
