None of this is built. It is recorded here so that what exists today can be read against what
it will become — not as a reference. Every one of these will exit as an unrecognized command.
The sqlmc command list: noun and verb commands such as workspace, project, script, connection, list, env, var, run, preview, format, history, settings and mcp.
Explicit, never toggling. The app's sort button flips direction on each press; sqlmc script sort [--desc] will state the direction. A headless caller cannot see the current state, so a toggle is a
coin flip.
Nothing silently does nothing. Where the app has an inert control — a disabled button — the CLI
returns a real error code. sqlmc format will work with zero connections configured, because the
only thing a target ever supplied to the formatter was the provider's lexer; you will pass
--provider instead.
Plan and execute.sqlmc run will split into planning and execution, with consent carried as a
value on the call rather than something the executor asks for: a dialog in the app, --yes here, an
echoed plan token over MCP.
--stream. Newline-delimited JSON events — target-started, script-finished, batch-error,
run-finished — so a pipeline can react before a long run ends.
Parity is a test, not a promise. Every command id in the app's registry will map to a verb, or
sit on an exemption list with a written reason, asserted by a test. The same theory source drives the
MCP conformance check, so the two headless faces cannot drift apart either. That test does not exist
yet: one verb is not a matrix.
